Seniors Lili Kaelin and Elizabeth Smith were each awarded $15,000 at the St. James Art Fair last month.

“Winning the scholarship was encouraging,” Kaelin said. “I realized that maybe my dream of having a career in art isn’t too far of a stretch.”

Even though Kaelin knows the art field is highly competitive, she isn’t letting that stop her.

“I definitely plan on pursuing my art in the future,” Kaelin said.

After high school, Kaelin plans on becoming an art teacher along with continuing to create art.

“Getting the scholaraship made me feel like I could actually go to college for what I want – which is art,” Smith said. “It gave me the boost of encouragement.”

Smith says she would like to blend her two interests, art and photography, to eventually pursue a career in photojournalism.
