“Wedding Crashers” – Amine // Music

Portland rapper Amine exploded onto the scene in early 2016 with his hit song, “Caroline.” This led to much anticipation surrounding his full length album, Good For You, which released during the summer of 2017. The hype would ultimately be well deserved. The album is an intriguing take on hip-hop with everything from upbeat songs of flirtation, such as “Spice Girl,” to mellow (almost melancholic) coming-of-age songs like “Turf.”

My personal favorite from the album is without a doubt, the petty tune “Wedding Crashers.” The playful instrumental coupled with the bitter lyrics (This is dedicated to my ex lovers/Hope that you hear this, never find another/Me and my friends, we don’t worry or pretend/Hope you play this at your wedding/Yeah, the one I won’t attend) aimed at an ex makes for an insanely catchy and interesting song. This song is for the singles and salty exes on Valentine’s Day.

“Lo Que Siento” – Cuco // Music

Described by the LA Times as a “teenage Chicano heartthrob,” musical artist Cuco has quickly gained a cult following. His most recent album, Songs4U, is full of chill sounds and raw, passionate lyrics. While it isn’t on the album, his popular single “Lo Que Siento” is a prime example of this music style. The mix of both English and Spanish lyrics shows his culture as well as adds another layer of romance to the already emotional lyrics (Dreamin’ of you when I’m alone/Baby don’t trip, I’m comin’ home/Kick it with me, I don’t care if the sun is gone/Baby don’t cry when I am gone/Promise you are everything I want/This is for you, baby listen, it’s your song).  Cuco bares all and details exactly how his girl affects him in the song, whose title literally translates to “What I Feel.”

“My Kind of Woman” – Mac DeMarco // Music

Mac DeMarco has a type of music hard to exactly describe. He himself has been known to refer to it as “jizz jazz,” while others have called it “blue wave” and “slacker rock.” Whatever it is, it works.  The iconic use of flat drums and guitar effects builds a laid-back atmosphere hard to capture in words. His song “My Kind of Woman” is a romantic song addressing his lover (You’re making me crazy, really driving me mad/That’s all right with me, it’s really no fuss/As long as you’re next to me, just the two of us) and how grateful he is to have her. She is exactly his type, his perfect fit– his kind of woman.
