Who wants to be a college student? The Bulldogs, most certainly, want to be college students.

Last night the annual “Who Wants to be a College Student” game, sponsored by Harvest Homecoming, took place in the New Albany High School auditorium. The event was open to high school students that are college hopefuls across Floyd County.
This year, a total of $11,850 was given away and NAHS students were, by far, the biggest winners. In fact, before the event began, the DOGS chant circulated throughout the auditorium representing the strong turnout by the Bulldogs. The game, a play off the popular TV show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”, had a total of 22 students in the “hot seat”, 19 of which were NAHS students. The first student to get in the hot seat was Senior Kris O’Bryan. On the turnout, O’Bryan believes that NAHS showed just how dedicated the Bulldogs are to succeeding.
“It was neat to see a lot of our students there and it was neat that 19 of us got scholarship when a lot of the Floyd [Central] kids didn’t show up,” O’Bryan said.
The highest amount of scholarship money received was $750, as no player made it past the sixth question of the game. Several passed, or walked, on the sixth question and earned $750. However, many missed the sixth question, taking them back to $450. Senior Danielle Cook was one of the five contestants to earn a high of $750.
Although, with the questions she had, Cook believes her decision to take the money was a good one.
“Honestly, no. I probably couldn’t have gotten father than I did,” Cook said.
However, O’ Bryan believes that if he were to have a second chance in the hot seat, being the first one to go, he would have a better understanding on exactly how to play the game.
“I think I would’ve done better if I’d known the format and would have gotten to watch someone else first,” O’Bryan said. “That way I would’ve know what the questions were going to be like.”
With the majority of students from Floyd Central and Providence either not entering the contest, or not showing up, the Bulldogs came out strong combining for a total of $10,350 earned in scholarship money. The Pioneers received $600 on one contestant and the Highlanders earned $900 on two contestants.
