Senior Luke Lete places seventh in state meet.
As many say, records are made to be broken. But as an athlete, setting a school record, no matter how long it lasts, is a special feeling.

Senior Luke Lete placed 7th in the 50 freestyle for the Indiana High School State Diving and Swimming meet on February 23. Lete also placed 18th in the 100 meter butterfly.
But it wasn’t the tremendous finish that caught everyone’s attention, it was the setting of a new school record. Lete finished the 50 freestyle in a staggering 21.30 seconds, but is it really what Lete is most thrilled about?
“To me, the seventh place finish [is more important] because I’ve already set a couple records at New Albany, but I’ve never been able to finish that high,” Lete said. “It feels good knowing that I worked hard, and I saw it pay off.”
As an athlete, seeing all your hard work pay off is truly a great feeling. Only a special, dedicated athlete can reach their goals, and that is exactly what Lete did.
“I believe it takes a lot,” Lete said. “You have to really be committed and desire the goal that you are aiming for.”
