Another season has come and gone for the Lady Bulldogs varsity basketball team. The season had its ups and its downs, but the Dogs ended on an up with a solid sectional win over Seymour.

According the NAHS Coach Geron, while the season wasn’t exactly up to expectations she couldn’t complain with how the season ended.
“We definitely became a better basketball team after the break (winter break),” Geron said. “For that, I’m proud of the girls for not giving up and continuing to work hard everyday, day in and day out, and we saw the results of that in the second half of the season.”
The improved results were capped by a sectional win against Seymour, avenging a loss from earlier in the season.
“I think it was important in this season to get a tournament win and to be able to go in and get back a loss you’ve had,” Geron said. “We felt like we had a good opportunity to go in there and be successful and I think we did a good job of going in there and executing our game plan and playing as a team. I think it was one of our best team efforts we’ve had all season.”
Along with the sectional win, according to Coach Geron, a win at Columbus East was the highlight of the season.
“We hadn’t won [at Columbus East] in ten years and it is a hard place to go and play on the road,” Geron said. “None of our kids have ever won there and we haven’t won there since I’ve been here so it was a big win to go in there and get a win. I think that [win] helped us turn the corner a little but to become a better basketball team.”
Looking forward to next season, Coach Geron believes that with the majority of her players returning with varsity experience, the Lady Dogs will come back next season ready to win.
“I think that our kids have a better idea of what they have to do in order to be successful at this level with the experience they gained this year,” Geron said. “Hopefully during the offseason we work individually to get better at thing we need to improve upon and then together as a team focus on the things that are going to make us successful with our schedule.”
The Bulldogs finished their season with an eight-point loss to the Lady Red Devils and finished the season with an 8-13 record. The Dogs finished the season ranked 98 in the state.
