Since Yessy Sanchez was little her family tradition has been going to her aunt’s house, even before she was born they had this tradition in the family. The only year that they didn’t do it was last year because her family moved to Texas.
Q: What is your family tradition?
A: We would always go to my aunt’s house, because she had a huge house and we would have a big feast send have all our family come together. Everyone would go down to the basement, then my aunt, holding a microphone, would grab a gift, and call the name and we would all start and end at the same time. We would go outside to hit piñata’s afterwards.
Q: What inspired this tradition?
A: I am not sure what inspired the start of the tradition, but I assume family was the inspiration, just to be together and have some fun.
Q: Is this tradition very dear to you?
A: Yes it is because I see all my family from Texas, and then I am happy when I am with and around them, more so when it is the holidays.
Q: What makes your tradition unique?
A: We hit piñata’s and had a birthday cake because it was someone’s birthday as well as Christmas.
As a family the Shoemakers came up together with a Christmas tradition that sticks. Sophomore Audrey Shoemaker and her family began the start of a lifelong tradition when she was just five years old. Shoemaker, her brother, and her father watch Christmas movies the night before, then choose one gift at random to give someone.
Q: What is your Christmas tradition?
A: Every year the night before Christmas we watch The Nightmare Before Christmas, we make coffee cake for the next morning and we open one present. My cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and brother go to one house, outside our door there is a elf that brings us pajamas.
Q: What inspired this tradition?
A: We just wanted to do something different from other families and something new, instead of the non-original traditions everyone has.
Q: Why do you like this tradition?
A: It is one of my favorite things to do because it makes me so happy during the holiday.
Seth Short may have not created the tradition but there isn’t a year that he hasn’t done it. This is very dear to him because this shows him how to give back to the community.
Q: What is your tradition?
A: Every year we find a family of high school student they is in need and we would help them for Christmas by buying them gifts.
Q: What inspired this tradition?
A: My mother came to me and asked if I thought it would be a good thing for us to start and I said her that everyone would love to do that, so it just kind of stuck. It started by my mom seeing how much some families struggle to get gifts and we receive so many so she wanted to help out.
Q: What makes your tradition unique?
A: This tradition is unique because it is the feeling of giving rather than receiving. It makes me feel like I’m truly a wonderful guy, and that I can make an impact every day and to many people.
Q: What do you like about this tradition?
A: This tradition helps me out a lot by showing me how to give back to the community and to help others. It’s very good for me to see and perform a good deed from the heart.
