Girls track HHC meet a close one by//Alex Wallingford

The girls Track & Field Hoosier Hills Conference was everything people were expecting from the out of the Southern Indiana rivals.

May 9 proved to be a close meet between the three big rivals of Southern Indiana: New Albany, Jeffersonville, and Floyd Central. The teams put in the work necessary to get a podium one, two, and three finish. Floyd took the win by a sizable margin of 23 points. Jeff and New Albany were a little closer, only separated by 7 points.

Hawkins gave the Bulldogs an excellent performance scoring eight points in the 800 and adding on six more in the 4×8.

“Individually I got second in the 800 which I’m really proud of because it sets me up for a potential state run in that event,” Hawkins said. “Our 4×8 came in third and it was a good way to get the meet started.”

Sophomore Mariah Grant raced competitively as well as having some fun.

“Conference is always a good time because you’re racing against all of your rivals,” Grant said. “I also have a lot of friends from the schools that are in our conference, so it makes it a lot more fun to participate in.”

Sophomore Mariah Grant also gave the Bulldogs a boost, but in the 100 meter dash.

“I came in second in the 100 even with the stomach flu, so I was really proud of myself,” Grant said.
