NA VS. FC PINK OUT
Break out the pink sweatbands, socks, and jerseys; the annual Breast Cancer Foundation soccer game has arrived. The boys and girls soccer teams have been working hard to prepare for the big rivalry game against FC Thursday, Sept. 15.
“Two years ago my grandmother passed away of cancer so I am very proud that we can support the cause,” senior C.J. Reynolds said. “It’s great that we can see two bitter rivals come together to benefit society.”
“I hope the student body takes more involvement in coming out to support the boys and girls soccer teams this year,” senior Morgan Hutchison said.
Experienced boys team ready for the Highlanders
This year’s team comes in with an experienced roster, winning three sectional titles and one regional title in the past three years. The team started off strong this year beating Floyd Central 1-0 in the Jamboree and currently holds a record of 3-1-0.
“I feel like in the past years, fans and even players have felt like we were the underdog coming into the FC game,” Reynolds said. “This year will be much different, we have much more experience and we have a lot of players that play with heart.”
The FC boys team has had a successful season so far. Although they have lost a considerable amount of players, with a record of 2-2, we can expect an exciting game.
“A win against FC in the regular season would mean a lot to us,” Reynolds said. “Anytime you win a rivalry game it is a huge momentum and confidence boost. This team is very close and very dedicated to bringing home the 4-peat.”
Girls team gets focused
The team started off with a great season, holding a record of 6-0-1 and tied FC in the Jamboree 1-1.
“I know now more than ever, because of being a senior, that time flies!” Hutchison said. “If I could tell anyone of the younger girls one thing it would be to give your all at every game, because once it’s over, it’s over.”
The FC girls team is 2-1; their recent game was a victory against Jasper.
“For FC we focus more on how they play, and how we can be successful while playing them,” senior Michelle Klueppelberg said. “We work on our attacks so we can beat their defense, and we work on our defenses mechanisms so we can keep them from scoring.”
