Proper – Into It. Over It.
Evan Weiss, the same guy who impressed listeners when he wrote a full length song every week for a full year, 52 weeks, 365 days, has since released a split with Koji and has also been working on his debut LP, which will be released this September. While Into It. Over It.’s debut LP, Proper, doesn’t actually come out until the end of the month, the first track from the album is available on several websites for download, (No Sleep, AltPress), and has IIOI fans looking forward to the remainder of the album. The song, “Where Your Nights Often End” may sound like it came from the pile of treasure that is 52 weeks, and the melodic-progressive-style may be somewhat redundant, but love it or hate it, its what keeps IIOI listeners waiting for what Weiss will come out with next.To promote this new album, Weiss, along with Frank Turner, will be touring this fall and will more than likely be coming our way.
Wildlife – La Dispute
If you’ve ever met a La Dispute fan, it’s not hard to figure out-they’re die-hard. La Dispute is undoubtedly one of the most debated bands in the post-hardcore scene today, but that doesn’t keep them from staying with the same “controversial” style they started with. With their second studio album following 2008’s Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair, La Dispute’s Jordan Dreyer dabbles in the familiar love, loss, search for purpose, and revisits old material that got us hooked in the first place. “Harder Harmonies”, the first released track of the album, is available in several places, but notably npr.org.
O, Evelyn – Owen
Two words: You’re cryin’. The man behind emotionally driven bands like Owen, Cap’n Jazz and American Football, Mike Kinsella, has released a 7″ titled O, Evelyn. The 7″ contains one orignal song as well as a cover of The Smiths’ “Girlfriend in a Coma” on one side, making it almost impossible to pass up. This album, like many of Kinsella’s projects, is strongly influenced by acoustics, soft melodies and leans more towards the melodic sound that is American Football. With sales limited to 2000, there’s no doubt that it’ll go quickly.
Simple Math – Manchester Orchestra
The highly anticipated third studio album from Atlanta’s Manchester Orchestra was released weeks before the actual album was available to download… in the form of hints all over the Internet. The album came out in a puzzle on the band’s website, and had fans all over, myself included, working to put the pieces together. When finally put together, listeners found that Simple Math was nothing like Manchester’s previous albums, I’m Like a Virgin Losing a Child and Mean Everything to Nothing. It did, however, encompass a number of conflicting sounds, which helped the album reach number twenty-one on the Billboard 200.
Street Prowl – Rotting Out
This year, Los Angeles-based hardcore band Rotting Out got a new lineup, but not a new sound. With a new vocalist, Walter Delgado, the band needed a way to showcase this new talent. Following their debut 7′, they released Street Prowl in May of this year and have already started touring with it, accompanying bands like Foundation and Harm’s Way. Even with a new lineup, the band hasn’t lost their place in the scene today and have reserved a place in the scene of tomorrow.
