FACS teacher Emily Carson says she is excited to lead the NAHS Student Council in addition to her role as an Interior Design teacher.
“I feel like educators create all other jobs in the world; so being a part of the start of literally everything in the world is kind of crazy,” Carson said. “It is very rewarding in itself.”
Carson says she wants to help give a good chance to every student and wants to see them get far in life. Being a teacher is very special to her she says because she is helping the next generations become themselves while also educating them.
“It can be challenging to be the sole motivator in the room, but trying to focus on that ‘why’ is really important,” Carson said. “Also just trying your best to be personable with the students and understand days will be bad, and not just treating them like students, but as human.”
Working with students all the time can be difficult, but Carson says she tries to keep them engaged. Students can get easily distracted, or not feel up to doing their work, but Carson makes sure she connects with them and get them to try to be the best they can be.
“I would say the welcoming community [is my favorite part of NAHS],” Carson said. “It is just very welcoming here, and everyone is so kind about answering any questions you have about the school and just how things are done here.”
Carson is looking forward to her new role as a club sponsor.
“I just want to help the Student Council create more fun in the student body, and just help get more positivity into the school culture,” Carson said. “This year we have a really good group, we’re trying new things, and we have to see where they go.”
Carson says she is excited to be helping the students create a more loving, comfortable environment. She wants to help the student body make school enjoyable, and being newer to the school and that position, she is willing to bring lots of fun ideas to the students.
“I like to travel, spend time with the people I love outside of the school, I like to read, I like taking yoga classes and also pilates classes,” Carson said. “Also sleeping, I love sleeping.”
