Whether it be the overly buttered popcorn, or the smell of it, the movie theater is everyone’s childhood. I remember going to the movie theater when I was younger to watch the Moana movie when it first came out. The smell of popcorn and the colorful shapes on the carpet were unforgettable.
According to The New York Times, an average quality surround sound system runs anywhere from $500-2500. Some houses cannot afford these high prices and inflation doesn’t help.
The average price of a movie ticket in the US is about ten dollars and seventy-eight cents, according to The Numbers. Personally, I’m always trying to save money anywhere I go, and spending almost $11 on a movie ticket is much cheaper than spending $500 plus for it in your home, which seems a bit outrageous.
On the topic of money, streaming services can be costly and some people don’t see the damage until all of the different streaming services start to add up. Streaming services can range from five to seven dollars or $15-20. If you have four to six different streaming services, it can add up fast.
Food is a big topic when it comes to the movie theater, and it is overpriced. However, who said you have to buy snacks from the movie theaters? Sneaking food into the movie theaters has been happening for as long as they have been open.
Tips to try and sneak food into theaters are having a large purse or bigger jacket with deep pockets to hide ‘the goods’. When sneaking candy into the movie theaters the staff will rarely stop you. Rule one is to not look too suspicious and make it look obvious, that’s when they get you.
One issue that is annoying is when a new movie comes out and people have to wait until it is released to their streaming services. Not to mention, the newly released movies are expensive, upwards to $20.
Another great factor to watching movies in a movie theater is the comfortable seats. Some theaters, such as the Xscape Theaters, have reclining lounge chairs for their movie theaters. Being comfortable is a really important part of watching movies, if you’re uncomfortable you won’t be able to fully focus on the movie in front of you.
However I will admit that I love the comfort of my own home, the movie theaters will always live in my childhood and in my heart. Another reason why movie theaters are just better is because of the huge screen. There is no affordable TV equivalent to the size of the cinema screens.
Half of the time, people are worried about the privacy aspect of it, and how you have to watch a movie with other strangers in the theater with you, but the majority of the time it is just your group and one other group. I watched the Kung Fu Panda 4 movie on March 11th and there was only our group and another couple. They were extremely quiet and laughed when appropriate so it was a really enjoyable environment, and I quite enjoyed the movie.
Movie theaters are an important part of both kids and adult lives when it comes to the experience of it. Whether it be the surround sound, or the comfortable seats while you watch the movie. From the salty, buttery popcorn, to the sweet and sour candies in the brightly lit cases, the theaters are an all-around fun memorable place to hang out and enjoy the arts of cinematics.
