As seniors reflect on their four years at NAHS they may remember the letter they wrote to themselves freshman year. Writing a letter to yourself your freshman year is a popular assignment that many schools participate in. Other things people will do are leave time capsules for themselves to open their senior years.
“Three years doesn’t feel like a long time but you grow in that time, and as soon as I’m done I’ll see what I was thinking freshman year, what I liked freshman year, what I don’t like, and just what I have to come,” freshman Mason Daly said.
Writing this letter can get freshmen excited about their next three years here and can also help them recap their freshman year as the year closes out.
“I’m excited for new teachers, learning things, and Prosser, I want to do nursing,” freshman Emily Moran said.
A lot can change throughout high school and writing these letters can track what changed about yourself.
“I would change basically everything about my letter for the most part. For some odd reason I put Home Depot was my favorite place to shop,” senior Bradley Harp said.
Your senior year and your freshman year can look a lot different from each other. You might have different classes, different friends, different teachers, different hobbies, and different things to look forward to. Writing a letter to yourself can also be a good way to set goals for yourself in the future and decide what you want to be different by senior year and what you want to stay the same.
“What I want to be different I guess is the way I am social because I am not as social as I want to be now,” Moran said.
NAHS is a big school with students coming from multiple different middle schools which can be intimidating but with all of these new people there are many opportunities to branch out and talk to new people.
“I wish I would have gotten out of my bubble sooner, sadly covid ruined my freshman year and I am lucky enough to say that when I did get out of my bubble I was able to meet new friends that I have now,” Harp said.
“For me freshman year is figuring out what to do and what path I want to take when I get older,” Daly said.
