When people think of summer the think of swimming, vacations, and fun places to go. All of these activities have one thing in common: they’re all expensive and despite how fun they may be, they are not very affordable.
It’s hard to find entertainment that’s cheap, or let alone free. Most types of nice entertainment are costly or far away. What most people don’t know is that during the summer there are a lot of cheap local events that are entertaining and have things to do for people of all ages. One cheap, local, entertaining event is called Waterfront Wednesday.
“Waterfront Wednesday is an event that takes place on the last Wednesday of each month,” senior Molly O’Malley said.
This event stretches from April to September. On these Wednesdays people gather in the afternoon on the Harbor Lawn to enjoy food and music.
“There’s a lot to do,” sophomore Kristen Knight said. “Everyone always has a lot of fun.”
People who go to this event get in free and only have to pay for refreshments. This event is hosted by the radio station 91.9 WFPK. They also provide the music and live performances.
“I really enjoy the music,” Knight said. “It’s always the thing I look forward to the most.”
Performances in the past have had the The Los Lonely Boys, The Avett Brothers, Drive By Truckers and Old Crow Medicine Machine and are expected to have more surprise performances on the last day of the event.
“My favorite performance was Sarah Jaffe.” O’Malley said. “I love her lyrics.”
If you’re looking for something fun to do to end the summer that’s cheap and entertaining, head down to Harbor Lawn and check it out.
“I really enjoy it and would recommend it to anyone who’d be interested,” O’Malley said.
The last day to attend is September 21 and gates open at 5 PM.
