It’s time for weather changes, leaves turning different colors, and a cool breeze in the wind on gloomy days. A spooky, eerie feeling in the air. This is known as Autumn.
During these spooky months people are cozying up on their couches and anticipating scary holidays such as Halloween. Everyone is so excited to finally have their haunted houses, pumpkin patches, caramel apples, and the warm feeling back. The question is: what are some staple things one needs during the bur months?
First, a big clothing essential that started trending in 2023, according to InStyle, is wide-leg jeans. These jeans have become a popular essential during this fall. Celebrities such as Demetra, Hailey Bieber, Gigi Hadid, and Khloe Kardashian have brought these back in style. Some people wear these because of comfort too. Shoppers can find these jeans at any local thrifting store, mall, or even Amazon. Amazon carries wide-leg jeans for as cheap as $4.81.
A big change has happened in the past year during this time. Instead of the beautiful pumpkin spice smell, the newest beloved fall scent is vanilla, according to Shane Company.
“It reminds me of childhood with my Mom. My mom used to make a lot of Vanilla flavored foods,” sophomore Laykan Clark said.
In Indiana for 2024 the most popular candle scent is vanilla. Bath and Body Works sells 7 billion candles each year. Statista reports that since 2022 Pumpkin Spice is 7% popular and Vanilla has jumped to 11% in the candle market. Candle and fragrance companies have seen an incline with this scent in perfumes, candles, body scrubs, and lotions.
“My favorite [thing] is throw blankets because I love to sit on the couch and snuggle up with my blanket because I’m literally the laziest person on the planet and I love being comfy,” sophomore Charli Skaggs said.
When it comes to decor, one must-have that everyone needs is a good soft throw blanket. Throw blankets are a great way to dress up any type of furniture or bedding within a home. They provide a cozy and safe feeling when getting comfortable on a couch watching a spooky movie. Places such as Target have blankets for affordable prices with so many different types of fabrics and colors.
During the spooky season a nice way to bond with family is baking a sweet treat. Specifically, some delicious Chai cupcakes. Taste of Home has many warm fall recipes. If you want a nice way to spend your day, families and friends often have a wonderful time at the Pumpkin Patch. Mainly, while you’re at pumpkin patches there will be apple picking, food, games, a park, music, a gift shop or store, hayrides, etc. What a great idea for a fall day. A well-known local pumpkin patch here in southern Indiana, is Hubers. It is more towards Borden and has so many exciting things to offer. The best time to go is mainly during the week being that kids and parents have work, school, sports, and other obligations. Choose a bright sunny day and go pick a big pumpkin.
As the weather cools and holidays roll in, people are out celebrating the fall season.
