March 10, the NFL free agency started to take fold and shake up the league, setting the tone and outlook for next season’s teams offensively. Every year following the Super Bowl, there is a period of roughly one month where the NFL is in the offseason and teams are not practicing. However, with the start of March comes trades and free agency, with the NFL Draft to follow in late April.
In the last few weeks, a few massive trades have already taken place, starting off with D.K. Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks. Metcalf is a wide receiver who requested a trade and was then traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a second-round pick. Additionally, the Seahawks traded their starting QB, Geno Smith, to the Raiders for a third-round pick. Lastly, the Rams signed WR Davante Adams on March 9 to build their offensive weapons.

Now, with the start of free agency, there is still immense talent on the board for teams to pursue.
Starting with QB, there are a lot of options this year that will have the attention of a number of teams. Both Pittsburgh Steelers QBs Russell Wilson and Justin Fields will hit the market and garner a lot of attention. The consensus opinion right now is that the Steelers will not pursue resigning Russell Wilson, but they may look to reacquire Justin Fields. In six games for the Steelers, Justin Fields went 4-2 before the Steelers switched to Russell Wilson, who eventually lost in the first round of the playoffs. Additionally, Vikings QB Sam Darnold will be available after a very successful one-year stint with the Vikings. Darnold revived his career in 2024 and set himself up for the opportunity to get a big payday. Currently, Darnold is rumored to go to either the Seahawks or the Steelers.
Lastly, former New York Jets QB and Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers is a free agent. That said, many do not know what is in Rodger’s future and whether or not he may retire. Only time will tell, but currently, many believe Rodgers may go to the Steelers.
Following quarterbacks, there are a lot of other big players within the skill position market(RB, WR, TE). One of the biggest names is WR Amari Cooper, who was on the Buffalo Bills after a trade midway through the season. Cooper is a 5-time pro-bowler and is 30 years old but is still very talented and will look to find a new home in the coming weeks. In addition to Cooper is Steelers RB Najee Harris. Harris is a very reliable RB who has had 1,000 rushing yards every year of his career and is rarely injured. As of now, it seems Harris will leave the Steelers, with his most likely suitors being the Cowboys and the Giants of the NFC.
Another huge wide receiver name will be the Buccaneers’ Chris Godwin. Godwin has been a premium receiver every year of his career but will more than likely need a new home after having a season-ending ACL Tear this season, which will set him back coming into next season. The last receiver who could be a big impact player is Stephon Diggs. Diggs is 31 years old and is coming off a disappointing season with the Texans after suffering a season-ending injury. However, some teams may still look to the 31-year-old for some help as he is a four-time pro-bowler and one-time first-team all-pro.
At TE, former Jaguar Evan Engram could look to provide help to a team. After being released by the Jaguars, Engram is now a free agent and will look for a new home. Engram is a Pro Bowl tight end who could help teams like the Giants, Chargers, etc.
For the last portion of offense, the offensive line will be key to the success of these teams. Two of the biggest names lay in at the Tackle position with Ronnie Stanley of the Baltimore Ravens and Cam Robinson of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Stanley is an incredible talent but is always injured and, as a result, might be looking for a new team. However, last year, he was finally healthy throughout, and he played incredibly. Stanley will be looking to obtain upwards of $20 million. Robinson of the Jaguars is in a similar situation to Stanley. After being franchise-tagged twice, he is finally available for a new contract and will look to get around the same amount as Stanley.
In the interior offensive line, Ryan Kelly of the Indianapolis Colts will be looking to get a new contract. Kelly is a 4-time pro bowler but is 31 years old and has started to regress recently. That said, he is still a viable option at center and will certainly have interest.
Lastly, James Daniels of the Pittsburgh Steelers is sure to receive a lot of attention. Daniels has been a quality offensive lineman throughout his career and will look to get anywhere from $6 to $10 million a year.
All in all there is a load of offensive talent on the board this year and many teams will have a lot of options to pursue in hopes of furthering their chances at winning next year’s Super Bowl.
