For the first time in New Albany High School history the girls golf team won sectionals.
Playing in the number one spot, senior Holly Roth shot an 82 on 18 holes, acheiving her personal best. This score earned her a third place medal, closely following second with an 80, and first with a 79. She had a terrific overall performance.
Developing the skills to compete in any sport requires years of practice. For players like Roth, golfing has been an important part of her entire life.
Starting when she was little, Roth attended many golf clinics and has been a golf team member since her sixth grade year.
“My favorite part about golfing is just the love for the game,” said Roth. “I know that I can go out and play anytime and just enjoy myself with my friends and family.”
Over the summer, Roth makes an effort to play in a golf tournament at least once every two weeks. During the season she practices every day with her team.
“She is the best player on the team,” said junior Lindsey Munshaur. “She is really nice to everyone. She is always in a good mood and constantly has a smile on her face.”
“I will definitely miss the golf team,” said Roth. “I have met so many girls through golf and have become really close to them.”
Roth plans on playing in college, but is undecided as to where she will be attending.
“The team will be really different without Holly next year,” said junior Bailey Biggs. “She was a great teammate and she was a great leader. It will be hard to see her go but I’m glad for the year that I’ve had with her.”
