Football Homecoming
Last Friday, Sept. 23, football homecoming queen candidates were escorted out on the football field at halftime to represent their classes on the 2011 Homecoming Court. One girl from each of the freshman, sophomore and junior classes were nominated by their classmates. Senior class representatives included Mady Baumann, Abby Litkenhous, Abby Ragains, Emily Bennett, Morgan Hutchison, and Chloe Kellams. All six girls were nominated by fellow senior classmates. The week prior to the Homecoming game, the student body placed one last vote to choose a senior Homecoming queen.
As halftime approached, senior class president Taylor Briscoe and vice president Blakely Greenwell prepared to crown the queen. Mady Baumann, escorted by Jordan Striegal , took home the crown.
Boys Basketball
Basketball season is approaching and our Dogs haven’t wasted any time preparing for the season. Coach Jim Shannon has offered the boys open gym twice a week and workout sessions twice a week, as well as all summer long to get them back in shape and familiar with every teammate. This season we lost a key player, Isaiah Jones, but gained two, A.J. Schmidt and Blake Schmidt, both former Providence Pioneers. The team dedicates their time and effort to prepare themselves for another successful season. As always, after football season concludes, you can pick up a set of student season tickets to come see your Bulldogs every Friday night.
Powder Puff
Fall is finally here which means lots of bonfires, Harvest Homecoming….and Powder Puff. The flag football game is a great rivalry between junior and senior girls. In years past, the weeknight game has lead to much controversy and even fights, however, with the new rules and tighter supervision, participants can have fun but still show everyone who rules the school. Practices give the girls of each grade to interact with some of their other classmates outside of their normal clique of friends. Running, drills, scrimmaging and loads of laughter are what make up a successful team practice. As the game draws near, both teams create unique names for the back of their game day shirt that include their actual name, a particular position or a skill that they contribute. The Powder Puff game is a great way to wrap up the football season and give the football players a chance to sit in the stands and watch a game on their field.
