The Walking Dead, Supernatural, and American Horror Story; how the public sees these shows
By Kaitlyn Lyn
American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, and Supernatural. All popular shows on not-so-popular television channels.
“[American Horror Story] is so intense, and it’s such a mystery,” junior Katlin Casey said. “You get caught up in it.”
AMC, the CW Network, and FX aren’t the big name TV stations. What makes it more interesting is these channels are airing the newest and some of the biggest TV shows today.
“I have a designated time to watch [The Walking Dead] my show,” sophomore Drake Miller said. Fictional shows like these give the spark of insanity viewers crave. The supernatural aspects are loaded with violence, mystery, and agonizing death scenes.
“I like Supernatural because it’s something that could really happen,” English teacher Mrs. Jammie Mathes said.
Countless effects are used in the created scenes. The characters play a large role in bringing the shows to life.
“Dean is my favorite character [from Supernatural] because he’s all rough and tough but he has a soft side,” Mrs. Mathes said.
Though there are nice characters, there are also the cruel and spiteful villains. Even though they have potential harm to the main characters they can still besomeone’s favorite.
“I like Twisty, I like Dr. Arden, and the Voodoo queen [from American Horror Story],” social studies teacher Mr. Nick Ellis said. “They’re so evil and twisted.”
Characters like Dean Winchester and Twisty add just a hint of edge. The softer, more laid-back characters shine another light onto the story. An example of this would be Tyreese from The Walking Dead. “I like Tyreese because everyone can trust him,” Miller said. Characters are often added and taken away rather quickly. For some, as long as it is not their favorite the show goes along as usual. For others they do not just have a certain favorite character. There are dedicated fans that even love the bad guys.
“My favorite characters from Supernatural are Sam and Dead obviously,” sophomore Kelsey Humphrey said. “I also like Castiel, Crowley, and Meg.”
The Walking Dead pulled in 13.5 million viewers Sunday, November 9. 8.8 million of those viewers were between the ages of 18 and 49 years old. This show on AMC beat out ABC’s show Scandal which had a total of 3.7 million views. To keep it short and sweet, the shows are borderline addictive.
“The scarecrow episode really scared me because I live on a farm,” Mathes said. “I have to watch Spongebob and Bugs Bunny before I go to bed.”
