Labor Day Weekend
Ah Labor Day; the first real break of the school year means a three day weekend, a four day following week, and one huge change in fashion: no white pants or shorts! Although this is a hard and difficult adjustment, it could possibly be the only downer of Labor Day weekend.
Last Friday seemed for most to be the longest day of the 2011 school year yet as everyone awaited the seventh period bell and their exciting plans. Some students decided to spend their weekends at lakes trying to catch every last bit of the summer sun. Others took day trips to Louisville for shopping and some traveled to colleges in the state to visit friends and family. Even though three day weekends are greatly appreciated, it is easy to get greedy and be desperate for another day off of school. It is safe to say whether you spent your weekend relaxing inside watching Netflix, or out taking a small road trip with friends that it was a great weekend and break from homework and tests. Now if only the no white pants rule before Memorial Day could be altered…
Where is the Love?
Schools are usually known to be a place of learning, friends, education, and safety. However with fighting on the rise, safe is the last thing that some students are feeling. NAHS is a large school and unfortunately fights are going to occur, yet hearing about them arising weekly or sometimes even daily is simply disturbing and out of hand. According to the National Resource Center which specializes in youth violence prevention, nationwide one in seven students have been involved in a fight on school property. Considering we have approximately 2100 students in our school, that would mean that 300 of those students will have a physical altercation on school property. Although it seems as if the 2011 school year has started off with a few conflicts, together, as a student body, it can be put to an end right now. Remember that walking away from a bad situation is still the smartest thing to do. Do not let yourself or our school become part of such a troubling statistic. Do the right thing Bulldogs!
Lanesville Heritage
It is the season of crisp weather, jackets, bonfires, and changing leaves; fall is almost here everyone! Now that days at the pool and sun tanning are creeping out of the picture, it is time to introduce an upcoming fall affair that is sure to not disappoint. The annual Lanesville Heritage event is coming up this weekend on Friday, September 9 through Sunday, September 11. There will be craft booths, fun contests and events, and of course dozens of food booths as well. Be sure to pencil the Lanesville Heritage event into your calendar all three days, but make sure not to forget Saturday when the yearly hot air balloon race will take place. It will be a great time and is sure to tide you over until Harvest Homecoming arrives.
