Most popular television shows amongst our students

When we look back twenty years from now and think of what we watched as teenagers, these two shows are almost guaranteed to cross our minds. Jersey Shore created its own culture and Pretty Little Liars has always been one of the most talked about series. Even if it’s hard for some to admit, some of our adolescent lives have been spent in front of the TV watching these shows.
Pretty Little Liars
Pretty Little Liars fans have been around even before the show aired for the first time on ABC family in June 2010. The popular book series was already enrapturing young girls and once the show hit ABC Family, there was no stopping the PLL fad. PLL is a fictional, suspenseful treat that keeps its viewers watching every single Tuesday night.
PLL makes for one of the best teen shows with episodes filled with fashion, mystery, girl talk, and not to mention some pretty delicious eye-candy. Even boys are tuning in for the constant suspense…or maybe just for the impossibly attractive girls. Nonetheless, viewers can’t hold back from gossip about the unknown “A” and are glued to ABC Family whenever the show begins.
Now that the series has taken a break, the nail-biting and constant suspense has been put on hold until the special Halloween episode coming in October. “A’s” identity is still a mystery, as it was not revealed in the season finale, therefore opening the door for many Pretty Little Liars episodes to come.
Jersey Shore
When MTV first aired the show in December 2009, no one could have predicted the booming outcome and the ground-breaking ratings averaging 2.7 million people an episode, which shot the station through the roof. Each episode is jam packed with drama and comedy that gets the viewers hooked.
Quotes are trending on Twitter and there are viewing parties thrown every Thursday night just to watch the show. Jersey Shore has taken the world by storm. Although the cast and what they stand for get “hated on” quite often, it’s hard to resist watching the hilarious reality show. Between Ronnie and Sam’s epic fights, all the GTL (for those of you who do not know this means gym, tan, laundry), and fist pumping, it’s almost impossible not to get hooked.
Jersey Shore is not going anywhere for a while, that is why the Italy season is still airing, and seven New Jersey natives who were once nobodies are now outrageously paid celebrities coming into our homes every Thursday night at 10 and putting us into a fit of hysterical laughter.
These two shows have shot into our teen lives so unexpectedly and one rarely finds someone who is not familiar with either one or both of these shows. Both PLL and Jersey Shore have the perfect ingredients for an extremely addicting series.
Where Jersey Shore offers the raw entertainment of a dramatic and hysterical reality show, PLL presents a suspenseful, and somewhat relatable, drama in a high school setting. Relatable material is another key aspect of their appeal. Even though you cannot really relate to earning $100,000 for partying every night of your life or being involved in the murder of your best friend, some of the real life issues that both the PLL girls and the Jersey Shore cast go through, can be compared to that of real high school problems. Regardless of the ridiculousness of Jersey Shore or the overdramatics of PLL, they are without a doubt the most popular and most talked about shows of 2011.
