“What do you have to be thankful for?”
Some people find it a challenge to answer such a simple question. It’s easy for a person to get lost in the amounts of homework, drama or family problems and say they have nothing to be thankful for, and probably have it better then most people in other parts of the world. Here at NAHS students are working to help all kinds of people who need it the most.
It’s not something a student would typically notice because it’s not usually recognized throughout the school. Although teams and organizations are constantly recognized, clubs who do things aren’t usually congratulated for the things they do to make our community and our country a better one.
In National Honor Society (NHS) this season, members will be collecting donations for Toys for Tots, the Angel Tree, and will also be ringing bells for the Salvation Army, sponsor Mr. Matthew Jacobi said.
Another club is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Members try to help out by ringing bells to collect money for the Salvation Army (which helps feed and help out families in need) and caroling for nursing homes. Not only does this help to raise money and help out but it also helps to spread a little cheer.
Key Club always has a lot to do when it comes to this time of year. First of all Key Club is participating in the Festival of Trees and Lights by helping with the children’s activities and spreading more holiday cheer to local families. Another thing the Key Club is doing is helping with Salvation Army Can Drive. The goal for cans donated is 12,000. The Key Club will also volunteer at the soup kitchen again this year, and will help the community while also teaching the students valuable life lessons.
“It teaches students
responsibility as well as teamwork and accountability,” junior Key Club member and Secretary Mary Reising said. “I think it really brings together the students and the community in an effort to better the lives of others.”
By doing simple things like ringing bells and working soup kitchens, NAHS is making a difference in many lives every single day.
