Q: You came here during your sophomore year, what brought you to New Albany?
A: I wanted a more rigorous curriculum than my old school could offer. I also wanted to come here for Latin classes.
Q: What have been some of your favorite classes that you’ve taken here?
A: My physics and Calculus AP classes and my Latin IV class are my favorite classes.
Q: What do you plan on doing after graduation?
A: I intend to study physics at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and eventually a Doctorate and acquire a research position or a professorship.
Q: Do you think the classes you’ve taken at New Albany have helped you figure that out?
A: I had more or less determined my goals when I came here, but some of my classes and teachers here have definitely helped me to get closer to these goals.
Q: How does it feel to be a National Merit Semi-finalist?
A: I still find it surprising sometimes. I feel quite honored, even if it is mostly based on one test.
Q: You’re interested in software programming, is that something you could see yourself pursuing in the future?
A: Although I do find programming fascinating, I do not really consider it one of my strengths.
Q: You’ve always got a book in hand, what are some of your favorites?
A: My favorite series is The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Some of my other favorites are the Codex Alera series also by Jim Butcher. I enjoy the Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix, Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk, The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells, the Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle and anything by Jules Verne.
Q: Outside of school, what are some of your other hobbies?
A: On my own time I enjoy reading about science and philosophy, watching the History Channel, reading and writing novels, playing video games (only ones with really good stories), playing table-top games, practicing martial arts, camping, target shooting, and watching science-fiction shows and movies.
