Tyler’s Fav Song: “untitled 02 | 06.23.2014”
Matt’s Fav Song: “untitled 07 | 2014 – 2016”
untitled unmastered, Kendrick Lamar’s fourth album, was released March 4, 2016. This album is very different from his previous albums, but it is still good in its own ways. This album is a compilation of songs he did not put on his last album, To Pimp a Butterfly.
Our review of this album is fairly good. The album is a very strange mix of funkadelic-inspired beats with a familiar mix of Kendrick vibes from his last LP. When listening to certain songs such as “untitled 03 | 05.28.2013”, you can tell that it was a leftover song from To Pimp A Butterfly. Almost every song on this album includes several drums and show Kendrick’s talents as a producer. A lot of constant talking throughout the songs makes the experience more personal and grounded, as it is easier to see Kendrick’s message through these times. The song “untitled 02 | 06.23.2014” is perhaps the most like Kendrick’s old work. While the song starts with an odd singing, it transitions into the fast and clever rapping that Kendrick has become known for. “untitled 07 | 2014 – 2016” is a slightly repetitive song with a string of catchy verses and smooth transitions, before eventually ending with 3:40 of talking and joking around with Kendrick and his friends.
Although this album was different than the past for Kendrick, it is a fun new sound. We give this album a 3.25 out of 5. Hopefully Kendrick’s next project will be longer than 8 songs. This album is available on iTunes and Spotify.
