The world was left in a shock after legendary singer Whitney Houston was reported dead on Saturday. Houston had a troubled past with drug addiction, but she also had one of the most powerful voices to grace our generation.
Houston got her start by singing in the choir at church. She knew she had a gift, so she pursued singing. Whitney Houston also gave acting a whirl. She starred in The Bodyguard and The Preacher’s Wife but singing was still her main talent.
Some of Houston’s greatest hits include “I Will Always Love You”, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “I Look to You”. These songs showcase her very strong vocals and capability to carry a tune. With a voice like hers, there is no doubt that she won numerous awards; In total Houston collected six Grammy’s.
Houston was on top of the charts, but then she met Bobby Brown. Brown was not a good influence on Houston. Together they would get high and usually end up fighting. Whitney became addicted to drugs, which led her career downhill from there.
Hopefully, Houston’s death can bring awareness to the problems she had and help others through them. It is tragic that so many talents go to waste due to problems with drugs.
