James Dean, Humphrey Bogart and Robert Redford…all names that the generation before us knows and loves. These actors shaped the silver screen and were part of the reason why movie going became so popular. Although many of the dynamics have changed and our movies today aren’t in black and white, we continue to “obsess” over stars with the same charisma as the ones that came before them.
You probably first fell in love with Ryan Gosling as the sincere and loyal Noah in The Notebook, or maybe it was his role as an undercover felon in Drive or maybe it was his boyish smile and charm that captivated you in his Disney days…either way, Gosling has quickly become the obsession of our generation and generations to come.
Like many others that started out as child stars with Disney, Gosling almost instantly achieved success. Recognizable from shows like Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Goosebumps, and Young Hercules, Gosling was a hit amongst kids his age. It wasn’t until his big break, though, in Remember the Titans, that Gosling received the recognition he deserved.
Recently, Gosling has racked up several starring roles in silver screen favorites. In 2010 and 2011 alone, Gosling starred in five films including his first action role, Drive, a supporting role to George Clooney in Ides of March, a crazed killer in All Good Things, a playboy in Crazy, Stupid, Love, and a devoted husband in Blue Valentine. With so many versatile roles, Gosling has gained more attention in the past year than ever before.
For those who aren’t moviegoers, Gosling is also a half of the indie band Dead Man’s Bones. Formed in 2005, Gosling collaborated with Zach Shields to put out an album in late 2009. Gosling also has experience with vocals, cello, bass, piano and guitar, which add several talents to his already long list.
Can’t get enough of him? Gosling doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon. He has several films in the works for the upcoming year. Some of his bigger projects include Gangster Squad, a 1940’s crime drama, Only God Forgives set in Bangkok, Thailand, and the highly anticipated Lawless, co-starring names like Christian Bale, Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett.
