Last week was a tough week for the varsity boys soccer team, as they lost two challenging games in the midst of the hardest part of their schedule.
On September 12 the team lost a very hard fought game against the Providence Pioneers. The team played excellent defense holding the Pioneers scoreless in the first half.
Sophomore Schnaider Upchurch was able to score a goal in the first half coming off of an assist from senior Manny Martinez . The Pioneers came to play in the second half as they were able to find the gaps in our defense and kick three into the back of the net. The Pioneers were able to tie the game 15 minutes into the second half.
The Dogs’ second goal came off an assist from Upchurch as he tapped a pass to senior Matheo Urrego. The final goal was scored by the Pioneers as the put on in the back of the net with a 1:36 seconds left in the game.
September 14 the team faced the Floyd Central. The Highlanders walked away with a 5-1 win. The Bulldogs again played great defense holding the Highlanders to only one goal in the first half. It was in the second half when Floyd Central was able to put together a very good string of goals to stay out of reach from the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs only score was off of a free kick by Urrego who put in past the keeper.
The team fell to Jeffersonville Sept 19 4-0. Next up for the Bulldogs – hosting Columbus East September 23 ;JV is at noon, varsity starts at 1:30 p.m.
