Bulldogs take a loss to FC, blow out last year’s state runner up

The Bulldogs were defeated by county rival the Floyd Central Highlanders December 8 in overtime . The Highlanders broke what was a 20-game losing streak to the Bulldogs. The Highlanders led the Dogs throughout the whole game.

The Highlanders were led in scoring by Luke Gohmann with 17 and was on fire from behind the 3-point line making four three pointers. Senior guard Sean East led the Bulldogs with 19 and at times looked like he was ready to take the game into his own hands. Five star recruit Romeo Langford scored 15 despite missing practice most of the week.

The Highlanders came out strong leading by 10 in the first quarter. East had a big second quarter dropping in 12 and the Bulldogs were trailing by seven at half time. In the second half the Dogs fought hard and tied the game several times in the fourth. The Bulldogs tied it at the end of regulation, but fell short in OT and lost by two.

The following day the Bulldogs traveled to Southport to face last year’s state runner up, Fort Wayne North. Langford went back to his normal ways dropping in 42 points and hitting six 3-pointers. The team was hot as well hitting 15 three pointers. The loss to Floyd Central must have given the Bulldogs a rude awakening as they led the Legends by 19 at halftime.

In the second half Langford dropped 26 and the crowd started chanting IU as Vanderbilt coach Bryce Drew watched. The Dogs bounced back with an incredible win despite the tough loss to the Highlanders. They are back in action tonight with a conference game against the Seymour Owls.
