Frank Ocean is, in my humble opinion, a god among men.

Okay, that maybe a little hyperbolic. However, Frank Ocean is truly not only a breathtaking singer but also storyteller. While his activity within the music community is sporadic and inconsistent, his fanbase is steadfast. In a surprising turn of events, this Valentine’s Day Ocean released a crooning cover of Henry Mancini’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s song “Moon River.”

Despite the song not being an original, Ocean managed to spin the classic and morph it into his own original style. It has all the makings of an Ocean track, from the dream-like vocals to the low bass line and vague synth. The song is almost reminiscent of Blonde‘s”White Ferrari” with its minimalist intro, transition into overlapping vocal lines, and Bon Iver-esque outro.

The cover is Ocean’s first release of the new year. In November of 2017, Ocean hinted at a new album in a post to his Tumblr: “I made the album before 30. I just ain’t put that b*tch out!” The cryptic message followed later by the cover drop has left fans speculating, however there is ultimately little indication as to what the singer has planned for this year.

So, while there is no guarantee or even evidence that Ocean intends to drop more new music in 2018, fans can rest assured: at least they will have this treat of a track to hold them over.
