Traveling to Cozumel

All Around the World

Sophomore Jordyn Butler traveled to Cozumel during winter break of her sixth grade year for a cruise destination.

“We rode mopeds around the island and then we went snorkeling and ate at this little beach place,” Butler said.

Butler explains that it was really a really great experience for her and her family.

“[The food is] probably fresher because they probably fresh got [the ingredients],” Butler said. “My dad got a red snapper and it had the head still on it. I thought it was interesting.”

While trying the different food at Cozumel, Butler explains that she had an allergic reaction to chicken and fries.

“They don’t really have food regulations,” Butler said. “[Here] you aren’t supposed to mix grease, [and] I’m guessing they did because I’m allergic to fish and had chicken and I had an allergic reaction.”

Butler explains that as she had an allergic reaction, her family was driving on the wrong side of the road. She continues to say that communication was the biggest problem.

“We couldn’t read anything to know we were going the wrong way,” Butler said. “Trying to tell the coops that I was having an allergic reaction and that we weren’t going the wrong way [was challenging].”

Butler explains that the language barrier was a problem when going to Cozumel and knowing some of the language would help a lot.

“Know the basics [of the language] because people in different countries are more accepting of you if you can’t try to speak it,” Butler said. “The language barrier between my dad and the cops was the reason.”

Butler says that the event with the police stuck out the most over everything during the trip.

“It was a pretty country,” Butler said. “[I’d go back for] vacation purposes [and] visit [there] again because I’d like to go back there and do something else.”

Hot. Small. Lively.
