NAFCS update on Covid-19 plans

Superintendent Dr. Brad Snyder talks preparations for the future

Sydney Byerly, Co-Editor-in-Chief

Superintendent Dr. Brad Snyder updates families in the district about the school corporation’s plans for the unknown.

He gives a reminder that all extra curricular activities such as field trips and practices are cancelled for the time being and school has been called off for Monday, March 30.

The corporation is seriously considering pairing the closures with e-learning. “We are preparing to make the switch towards e-learning and non-traditional instruction,” Snyder said. A letter should be sent out to families regarding the switch to give expectations as well as more information. A basic food program is in the works for kids and will start next week. More information on the program will be included in said letter.

We are preparing to make the switch towards e-learning and non-traditional instruction.

Snyder also says in the video that a meeting with the Board of Trustees has been scheduled for this following Monday night, March 23. Governor Eric Holcomb plans to give a press conference on March 19 addressing the state of Indiana’s plans concerning the coronavirus. Snyder seems to believe that public school issues will be a main talking point, and this will affect NAFCS decisions moving forward.

Snyder says that he recommends parents begin making preparations for longer periods of school closings as far as daycare goes. “We are more concerned with making quality decisions rather than speedy ones,” Snyder said.
