Joey Bada$$ – ALL AMERIKKKAN BADA$$
Tyler’s favorite song : “FOR MY PEOPLE
Matthew’s favorite song : RING THE ALARM
Back in 2012, a mixtape titled 1999 was released from a young man who called himself Joey Bada$$. On April 7, 2017, he released his sophomore album ALL AMERIKKKAN BADA$$. This album is a smooth, loud, and triumphant political and social stance. Joey clearly states his views, but does it in a way that sounds great through speakers.
Our review of this album is good. While Joey takes a very strong stance on race and politics on this album, he also knows how to express his feeling of triumph while having an impressive flow and overall sound. “FOR MY PEOPLE” is a loud, excited, and political song about the people of America, particularly the African American community. In the song, Joey talks about wanting someone to rise up to protect, and fight for equality while describing the struggles of everyday life as a young person growing up in America. The drums in this track are hard hitting and fast, with the typical jazzy background sample that Joey’s audience has come to know and love. “RING THE ALARM” is a very lyric emphasized track over a techno beat. Unique to the rest of the songs, this track features three different artists rapping about how far they have come.
This album is overall good, but it’s repetitive political views constantly being thrown in your face make some songs a little tired. However when Joey does what he does best and uses clever lines to make the audience think and really listen to him, this album shines brighter than his previous one. Joey is a talented young rapper who we can not wait to hear more from. We give this album a 3.5 out of 5. This album is available on iTunes and Spotify.
