The New Albany high school boys golf team is starting to start up their 2024 season and they are looking forward to having a great season. The first official practice was last week, March 3rd. With four out of the starting five returning they are looking to maintain the team chemistry and win most of the tournaments they compete in this year. The top five golfers will make up the total score for the team during sectionals. Some tournaments during the season will only be accumulated by the top three scores.
The team leaders senior Blaine Hamilton and junior Rossi Hamilton (who are not related), look to dominate this upcoming golf season. The team is also really solid with the other three returning to improve their individual scores and have a better feel for the local courses. They will continue their play on home course Valley View Golf Course and plan to defend it all year.
Rossi is looking to have a monster season and continue his high level play from last year.
“I know we will be just fine as a team and shoot really well all year including finishing it out during sectionals,” Rossi said.
“Last year we, as a team, underperformed in sectionals and we know that, but we are coming back this year with a chip on our shoulder and looking to win it all and beat Floyd,” Rossi said.
Junior Cooper Anderson has been practicing his finesse and craft on the course throughout the season and is looking forward to showing the work he has put in.
“I’ve been playing a lot at Covered Bridge Golf Course with my dad after getting a new membership there,” Anderson said.
Originally inspired by his dad to play golf, friends have also inspired Anderson to work harder at the sport.
“My dad is a big inspiration to play as he used to play a lot, but honestly Rossi Hamilton got me into golf as a sport and I really appreciate him for that,” Anderson said.
The golf team is looking forward to meshing the key parts together this year. The cut down on mistakes on the course will be a lot more consistent as they have a lot more experience. They start the season with Fuzzy Zoeller Invite at Covered Bridge and look to win it. They will continue to play at Old Capital golf course in Corydon, Indiana. They will also play in The legends of Providence invitational at Champions Pointe golf course in Memphis, Indiana.
Senior Blaine Hamilton has been in the lab all winter and has improved many aspects of his game.
“You know I have really just improved my club speed and my short game,” Blaine said.
As a senior Hamilton has taken on more leadership of the up and coming team this year.
“I take leadership of this team because I think we have a chance to be great and make a run for the sectional this year, being my senior year,” Hamilton said.
