The homecoming dance is a little over a week away and the students are getting ready for the exciting night. It is expected to be filled with lots of enjoyable things. Junior Taylor Fessel is head of the student council’s Dance Committee.
A Night In Paris was the chosen theme for 2024. The Dance Committee was able to settle on this theme because they thought it would be fun and they all liked it. Other themes were considered, but didn’t make the cut.
“We considered a Rapunzel theme, but then we thought that would be a little too close to Paris, so we settled for the Paris theme,” Fessel said.
A theme is crucial to planning a school dance and can transform it into a spectacular event.
“We will have some Eiffel Towers, lights, and some stuff like that for decoration,” Fessel said. “[They] will be [serving] the same [refreshments] as last year, cookies and probably water.”
All of these details are important to planning an exciting night for students, but where exactly will it all come from? Ticket sales and donations is where the Dance Committee will find the funds to be able to obtain the things listed above. Even the PTO helps pitch in if needed.
“Sometimes people donate cookies or the PTO. We also use the money from the ticket sales.” Fessel said.
The DJ for 2024 homecoming will be the same one from last year, 2024 graduate Nate Samsel.
“[Homecoming is] running smoother, cause it’s the second one, and we know what to expect,” Fessel said.
The Dance Committee team is promoting the Homecoming dance more this year in order to increase numbers and student attendance. A few ways they are doing this is through the spirit week that is coming up and the hope that students who went last year will encourage younger students to come by sharing their experiences.
Taylor Fessel says she loves being a part of the Dance Committee team. She loves the experience of being on the Student Council and the fun that comes from planning these events.
“My favorite part is seeing the outcome of what it is [that] we are planning,” Fessel said.
Junior Lizzi Gatewood attended Homecoming last year.
“My favorite part [of homecoming] was hanging out with my friends and I really liked the food [they served]. I am very excited for this year’s Homecoming Dance,” Gatewood said.
Junior Emma Wilson will be going to Homecoming for the first time this year.
“I am most excited about dressing up and hanging out with my friends,” Wilson said.
