Ah, spring break. A cold drink in your hand, sand between your toes, the only thing missing is some good music…. But what do you play? Here are some of the best artists’ that you could never go wrong with jamming out to.
Young the Giant (alternative, rock)
The first time I heard “Cough Syrup” by Young the Giant I’m pretty sure I died… Yeah that’s right I’m no longer alive, because this song is just so good it’s life changing! First of all, Sameer Gadhia has the voice of Fergie and Jesus (but for real). Secondly, the emotion behind each song of theirs is just inspiring. Their lyrics combined with amazing melodies and talent, I mean they’re perfect! I like to listen to them when I want to chill out and relax, or just think about life. All in all, I 100% recommend you check them out!
Song Suggestions:
-“Cough Syrup”
-“Islands” (my fav)
-“It’s About Time”
The Head and The Heart (alternative, folk)
Freshman year. Spring Break. “Down in the Valley” by The Head and The Heart on repeat. Good times. I love the style of music THATH makes! It’s the perfect combination of upbeat and chill. I mean it doesn’t get any better than that! This band was kind of my gateway band in finding new styles of music I liked, as well as new artists I’d never heard of. They’re perfect for those days when you just want to take it all in, lay in the sun and be young!
Song Suggestions:
-“Rivers and Roads”
-“10,000 Weight in Gold”
-“Another Story”
Fall Out Boy (rock, alternative)
Elementary school me would totally agree, Fall Out Boy is pure amazingness! Needless to say, I have forever been a FOB fan, pre and post hiatus. Their newest album, Save Rock and Roll, is start to finish quality songs. Each song is so well done, and together they mesh into a perfect combination of love and rock and roll. I think if I had to choose one band to listen to for the rest of my life, FOB would win.
Song Suggestions:
-“Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes”
-“Alone Together”
-“Miss Missing You”
Smallpools (indie pop)
This band is my latest obsession! They’ve only come out with one EP, with only four songs on it, but I love all four. This band is the perfect spring break/summer band because they’re just so fun, upbeat, and young! I definitely suggest looking them up, especially if you are in need of cheering up. The first time I heard “Dreaming” by them I literally had a dance party, by myself, in Coffee Crossing… They rock!
Song Suggestions:
-“Dreaming”
-“Mason Jar”
-“Dreaming Remix”
The Foo Fighters (rock, alternative rock)
My love for The Foo Fighters dates back to my 31-year-old brothers junior year in high school, when I was just a wee little lass, and “All My Life” was his (and my) favorite song. I love the balance in their songs between hard rock, and deep music. Their lyrics are ones you find a deeper meaning in, that you fall in love with, that you get that connection to that often times, not many people understand. At least that’s the case for me. Check them out if you’re looking for a good time *winky face emoji*. But seriously look them up!
Song Suggestions:
-“All My Life”
-“Times Like These”
-“Walk”
