For the majority of my three years in Newspaper, I have always written about things that didn’t pertain to me, or the things that HAD to be covered for our issues. Now it is my time to shine and write about things that pertain to myself and my senior year. Whether my stories are about something amazing that happened to me that week, or my biggest pet peeves, from here on out, I only talk in #Hashtags.
#Didtheyjustsaythat
I’m sure we have all had that moment when we are walking down the hallway at school, or maybe even just walking down the street, and we hear someone that says something that makes us think, “Did they really just say that…?”. Some of the things that we can hear others say can really make us question things around us everyday. There have been many instances in my life where I have had a “Did they just say that…” moment. Here are a few types of those situations that I have been in recently:
When you’re sitting in class and you hear something disturbing…
There have been MANY, and I mean MANY instances, where I have been sitting in class and I (and even the whole class) have heard something that no one wanted or needed to hear. Whether it be something awful that the person did last weekend, or some very personal information about themselves, it just makes you think, #Didtheyjustsaythat. Not only are you truly confused as to why that person would be saying and sharing information like that with others, but you are genuinely embarrassed for them. You can try and hide the fact that you just heard them say what they said, but we all know that you will never be able to get that information out of your head.
When someone trash talks your best friend right in front of you…
This has happened to me too many times to count. These people just come right out and start talking bad about your best friend straight to your face, as if they think that you aren’t going to say anything to them about it. My first initial thought when someone does this right in front of me (other than #Didtheyjustsaythat) is, seriously?! How are you seriously going to trash talk my friend right in front of my face. Not only does this make the person look silly for doing what they are doing, but it could really fire you up. Whether they know that they’re talking about your best friend or not, they are now going to find out eventually, and it’s all downhill from there. We can all just hope that these people learn from their mistakes, and don’t have another encounter with one of these #Didtheyjustsaythat moments.
When a teacher makes an inappropriate comment in class…
I haven’t had many of these moments, but I have had a few. These can be one of the worst #Didtheyjustsaythat moments. You go into class not expecting anything odd to happen, and then boom, it happens. You were kind of in the middle of dozing off while still trying to pay attention, and then your teachers inappropriate comment brings you back to reality. Your first initial thought of course is, #Didtheyjustsaythat, and also, why did they just say that? Not only are you really confused on why a teacher would make an inappropriate comment like that, but now you and the rest of your classmates are sitting in the awkward silence trying to figure out how to recover and move on from it.
