The Bulldogs move on. This past Saturday last year’s state champions took on their biggest rivals – the Floyd Central Highlanders. They came out of the sectional championship with a 54-38 win.

The Bulldogs came out with the will to win and started of the game with an 11-0 lead. Junior Sean East was the heart of this run after he hit three out of four from three point range. The Highlanders then got their spark and cut the lead to three with one minute remaining in the first quarter.

The Highlanders used the momentum that they had gained at the end of the first to their advantage. The game was still tied with over half of the second quarter already played. The highlanders then jumped out front and went into the break leading the defending 4A state champions.

Losing at half time is never a great feeling, sophomore Jared Wright talks about how he was feeling going into the second half.

“I was stressed out,” Wright said. “The game just changed so quickly and got really stressful. At half I just in disbelief that the game was so close.”

Coming out of the half Floyd Central continued their impressive outside play, hitting three pointer after three pointer. The Bulldogs stood tall and managed to tie the game up at 35 points a piece heading into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter is when the defending state champions started playing like they usually do, better than any 4A school in the state. Junior duo Romeo Langford and Sean East exploded for a 10 point run to put the Bulldogs up by 10. With half of the quarter still left to play the Highlanders hadn’t scored a single point, and the Bulldogs were rolling. The Bulldogs continued their outstanding fourth quarter play and held the Floyd Central Highlanders to just three points in the final period of play.

The Bulldogs will play Center Grove on Saturday morning in Seymour at 10 a.m. If they win they will play the winner of the Castle and Bloomington South game at 8 p.m.
