Tyler’s Favorite Song : “LUST.”
Matt’s Favorite Song : “LOVE. (FEAT. ZACARI.)”
With the lead single “HUMBLE.”, released on March 30, 2017, debuting at number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, DAMN. was a highly acclaimed album for the hip hop/rap industry. However, nothing less was expected from Kendrick Lamar, someone who refers to himself as “The greatest rapper alive”. DAMN. tells the story of Kendrick’s destiny, life, and death in America.
Our review of this album is very good. Leading in with the first track “BLOOD.”, Kendrick tells a story of a trip to the park leading into his untimely death. This track sets a storytelling theme, which is reinforced throughout the album. “ELEMENT.” is a medium-paced, hip hop track that tells us how he is in his element (the hip hop/rap genre), and no one can, nor will, take him out. The final track “DUCKWORTH.” presents a message of luck. Throughout the song Kendrick talks about his father, and how coincidence led Kendrick to become one of the greatest rappers. The beautiful samples with the jazzy beat are a perfect sound for Kendrick’s odd but now familiar vocals. The ending of the album wraps up the story of the album completely in a perfect way by ending the song with the first line of the album.
Kendrick Lamar knows what he is doing, and he does it well. We give this album a 4.75 out of 5. This album is a great mix of old and new Kendrick, and contains a fresh story with lots of styles for everyone to enjoy. DAMN. is available on iTunes and Spotify.
