While many seniors drug themselves into school that first week, some freshmen woke up at the crack of dawn panicking they would miss the bus on their first day of high school.
Coming to a new school can be nerve racking. Freshman Tristan Beliles gave us his thoughts on school so far.
“Finding my classes was a little bit difficult because there are three floors,” Beliles said. “Since I have an older brother who has been going here he helped show me around so out of 10 my nerves were only really a 6.”
New Albany High School has many more classrooms than the middle schools.
“The building is a lot larger than Scribner and sports are very different,” Beliles said.
Beliles swims and plays tennis for the Bulldogs.
Freshman Lileigh Winters, who comes from Scribner Middle School as well, says she wasn’t nervous for the first day at all.
“I knew what floors all my classes were on so finding them was pretty easy even though it’s much bigger than my old school,” Winters said.
The middle schools started doing WINN last year.
“WINN has been a lot different here and gives me a chance to finish most of my school work here instead of doing it at home,” Winters said.
Freshman Ireland Shaffer went to Hazelwood,
“My classes were difficult to find at first, but me and my best friend were able to come in and look around before the first day and that was really helpful,” Shaffer said.
The freshman class this year has more than 441 students, roughly 200 from Hazelwood and 200 from Scribner.
“I’ve seen a lot of new faces, but some of them I’ve seen before when I was in the high ability program,” Shaffer said.
High school has a lot more activities to look forward to such as Homecoming, larger sporting events and performing arts.
“I’m looking forward to meeting new people and trying new things,” Shaffer said.
