With over 380 locations and more than 20,000 flavor combinations, 7 Brew has become a nationwide phenomenon. Southern Indiana is now welcoming a new 7 Brew on Charlestown Road next to Northside Church.
“[I] get up at 6, leave at 6:45,” senior Delaney Tanner said. “I go at least twice a month. They just added the one in New Albany, and I work across the street, so I’ve been going every day. I get a fruit-roll up energy drink.”
Other teens, similar to Tanner, take those few extra minutes to wake up so they can go get their favorite drink.
The love for coffee affects teens and adults alike, especially at 7 Brew. English Teacher Tabitha Vincent, shares this love for coffee.
“I like 7 Brew because they are cheaper,” Vincent said. “If I go to Starbucks and I get one drink, it can be anywhere between 7-9 dollars versus 7 Brew, you get like a huge drink… and it’s maybe 5 or 6 dollars max.”
But others, like Vincent, don’t have the time to make a pit stop in the morning. They end up having to go at different times to grab their favorite drink.
“I live in New Albany and since we’ve only had one in Jeff and one in Clarksville, I go at least 3-4 times a month, but I have to go out of my way to do that,” Vincent said. “I usually go when I get off work because I don’t want to commute because of traffic. So that’s what made me really excited when this one opened, because now I planned to go before work.”
With 7 Brew as a new addition to Charlestown Road, students and teachers can now grab a quick coffee on their way to school. 7 Brew has also been hinting at its promotions with its upcoming opening on September 1.
“They are doing free [small] drinks, but it’s like 7-9 in the morning for the first 3 days they are open,” says Vincent. “They do give away free t-shirts when they open. I get the German Chocolate Chiller. If you want a non-coffee item, I suggest a lemonade chiller.”
With the new 7 Brew opening, some worry that Charlestown Road will become more chaotic with a Starbucks and a Coffee Crossing already there.
Opposed to the whole idea of coffee, senior Lizzi Gatewood, expresses her concerns on getting up early to just grab a coffee.
“I think it’s insane, unless you have nothing in your house,” Gatewood said. “Why in the world are you walking around school with an extra-large drink of coffee? If you need that to wake up, maybe you have other problems.”
With her general dislike for coffee, she also expresses her dislike for coffee shops.
“Starbucks without coffee is like a glorified milkshake,” Gatewood said. “I think they are too close together. I don’t know why 7 Brew opened up right there. I think it’ll cause a lot of traffic.”
Even 7 Brew lovers agree with the fact that the traffic will be terrible.
“It’s gonna be bad,” Tanner said. “They already have construction going on further down Charlestown Rd, like by Sellersburg, it’s going to get more backed up… this’ll make it ten times worse, especially with the church traffic.”
The Charlestown Road 7 Brew officially opens to the public September 1.
