As the days grow colder and shorter, the popular question arises across houses all over the world. When is the right time to deck the halls with lights and a tree?
There is no rule book when it comes to whether it is tinsel time or not. For some, the holiday season brings them nostalgia, and they want it to last as long as possible. To many people, the end of Halloween is the signal that the greatest holiday season is close by.
Once their pumpkins are rotted, some don’t waste any time turning their houses from haunted to holly.
Many people like putting the lights up on their house before its cold and just wait until the right time to plug them in and make the whole neighborhood light up. Others hold out until the day after Thanksgiving to assemble and decorate their tree.
Junior Graham Anger says his family has never been in a rush to start decorating.
“In my opinion, Christmas decorations should be put out sometime after Thanksgiving,” said Anger.
Approximately 80% of the United States doesn’t put up their Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving.
“My family doesn’t put up our decorations until the week before Christmas or when we get around to it,” said Anger.
While Anger is waiting until the very last minute, Junior Bella Shock puts up her decorations almost the exact day after Thanksgiving.
“Christmas decor makes me so happy. I love all the sparkly lights,” said Shock.
Shock considers Christmas to be more than just a holiday; for her, it’s the whole winter season, so she wants the decorations up as long as possible.
“Although I like to put up my decorations before December, I do think stores display their trees and Santa blowup a little bit too early,” said Shock.
A large reason retail stores push their products out so early is to let customers see what they like and make a budget.
“I think the stores should wait until at least November 1st,” said Shock.
Even though Anger waits to put up his decorations, he loves the Christmas spirit.
“There is something about the winter weather and merry-ness that ties Christmas together for me,” said Anger.
“It brings me back to my childhood memories and always seems to put me in a good mood,” said Anger
There is no right time to decorate for any holiday it is all based off of personal preference and what you find the most fun.
