The countdown to one of the most anticipated nights of the school year has begun.
On Saturday, September 6 from 7-10 p.m. the main gym will transform into a black and gold dream for this year’s homecoming dance.
The event is themed “Shimmer and Shadow”. With more than 550 attending last year, this year’s event promises to be even bigger, brighter, and more memorable.
Tickets go on sale next week September 2-5 during lunch for $10. Students from all grades are welcome to attend; no outside guests are permitted. Hosted by Student Council, the event will feature light snacks, water, and even balloon arches, a decorated photo area, and a live DJ ready to keep the music and moves grooving all night.
For those who have never been to a high school homecoming dance, some jitters may take place but here’s some advice.
“Go with your friends, enjoy it, and take lots of pictures,” sophomore Stella Lozier said. “Dancing around to the songs with my friends was the best part.”
The music doesn’t just fill the gym, it fuels the energy by keeping students on their feet and the night alive.
It is English teacher Tabitha Vincent’s first year as Student Council sponsor.
“ We will have different areas decorated and glow sticks they use at weddings,” Vincent said.
Vincent and students planning the event plan to come prepared down to the decor, snacks and water, and picture areas.
For many, Homecoming revolves all around the outfits. Who will be the best dressed? What to wear? How high should your heels be? Or even what color tie?
Sophomore student council member Elise Rainwater has some advice.
“Sparkly and short mini dresses are expected to be the most popular choice,” Rainwater said. “Boys normally wear button up shorts and dress pants.”
With trends leaning toward sparkly mini dresses and basic button ups, planning ahead is key. There is no official dress code, students wear all sorts of different stuff.
“Make sure you buy your tickets on time,” Rainwater said. “Don’t get your dress at the last minute and make sure you are prepared.”
